More than a copy of the captions

Captions first, audio when needed

When a video has captions we start from them, which is fast and keeps the creator’s wording. Videos without captions are transcribed from their audio instead.

Click a line to jump

The video plays next to the transcript, and each line takes you to the moment it was said.

Auto-caption clean-up

Repeated lines from YouTube’s rolling automatic captions are merged, so the transcript reads cleanly.

Edit without losing the original

Your corrections are saved as a new version; the original stays available.

Export for any use

Plain text for notes and AI prompts, Markdown for articles, SRT and VTT for subtitles.

Only public videos

Private, members-only or removed videos cannot be opened, and you are not charged for them.

Getting the most from a YouTube transcript

Captions or speech recognition

Most YouTube videos carry captions, written by the creator or generated automatically by YouTube. When they exist, your YouTube transcript is built from them: we take the track in the video’s original language first, then the automatic one, and tidy it into readable lines with timestamps.

When a video has no captions at all, its audio is transcribed with speech recognition. That takes a few minutes longer, and the quote tells you which method will be used before you confirm.

Clean text from automatic captions

YouTube’s automatic captions scroll up the screen and repeat each line as they go, so copied as they are, they read like a stutter. The transcript merges those repeats and keeps each sentence once, still with its time.

Automatic captions can mishear names, brands and technical words. Read the transcript next to the video, fix what is wrong and save. The original stays available exactly as delivered.

Use the transcript with the video

The video plays in an embedded YouTube player beside the transcript. Click any line to jump to that moment, or search the YouTube transcript for a word to find where it was said. It is a quick way to check a quote, find a scene for a clip or skim a long talk.

What people do with a YouTube transcript

Students turn lectures into notes. Creators reuse their own videos as blog posts, newsletters and social captions. Researchers and journalists pull exact quotes with their timestamps. Download TXT or Markdown for writing, or SRT and VTT for subtitles on videos you publish.

Only public videos can be opened. Private, members-only and removed videos are refused before anything is charged.
