About Video Transcript
Video Transcript turns videos and recordings into transcripts you can work with: real timestamps, easy editing and clean exports for subtitles, notes and articles. Here is what to know about Video Transcript, how it works and who runs it.
What Video Transcript makes
Upload a recording or paste a link and the transcript arrives in your workspace with timestamps on every line. Edit it line by line, rename speakers, switch between the original and your edited version, and export TXT, Markdown, SRT or VTT.
We also make free browser tools for subtitle files: a converter between SRT and VTT, and a tool that turns subtitles into plain text. They run on your device and never upload anything.
How Video Transcript works
Before an upload, your browser extracts the audio track, so a large video becomes a small audio file. The audio is then transcribed by a speech recognition service and stored privately for a short time.
For social video links we first read the post’s details and any captions it already has, and use them when they cover the whole video. Otherwise the audio is transcribed. Either way, you see the method and the minutes a job will use before it starts.
Platforms and languages
Video Transcript reads public links from YouTube (videos and Shorts), TikTok and Instagram (Reels and video posts), and accepts audio and video files you upload: MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV, WebM and more. The spoken language is detected automatically, or you can choose it yourself when a recording has strong accents or several languages.
How pricing stays fair
A job uses its length in minutes, rounded up per file, from one pool that covers uploads and links alike. You see the number before you confirm, minutes are charged only when the transcript is delivered, and a job that fails returns every reserved minute. New accounts get 10 free minutes to try it.
Who Video Transcript is for
Creators who want the script of a video, their own or someone else’s, to study a hook or rework it. Students and researchers who need notes and quotes from lectures and interviews. Editors who need subtitles that match the video. Anyone who would rather read a recording than sit through it.
What we don’t do
We don’t download or store the videos behind the links you paste, and we don’t offer a video downloader. We don’t invent timestamps: text without real timing is never turned into subtitle files. We don’t claim an accuracy figure, because accuracy depends on the recording, so we show you the transcript and let you fix it.
We don’t sell your data or show ads. The services we rely on, and what each receives, are listed in our privacy policy.
Where we are going
Next come summaries, questions and answers about a video, and full articles written from a transcript, paid for with AI units. They are marked as coming soon until they work, and the pricing page shows what each plan will include.
What Video Transcript promises
- Timestamps are real. Text without timing is never turned into subtitle files.
- Your original transcript is never overwritten. Edits are saved as new versions.
- You confirm the minutes before a job runs, and a failed job costs nothing.
- Uploaded audio is deleted automatically after a short time, and we do not sell your data.
Who runs Video Transcript
Video Transcript is built and run by a small independent team that also makes the other sites on our Resources page. We read every message sent to support.
